DISNEYLAND PARADES - 2000 to 2020



2000 PARADES

45 YEARS OF MAGIC PARADE ~ [Later to be called PARADE OF THE STARS in 2001] Held in honor of Disneyland’s 45th anniversary, this parade began on Friday, February 18, 2000. Guests were randomly chosen to dress in tutus and wear animal hats to take part in this parade. It featured many characters from Fantasia.

A CHRISTMAS FANTASY PARADE ~ Starting in November of 1995, this seasonal parade is an all Holiday themed show. Like its predecessor, this parade included all new floats, and an original theme song. This parade has changed little since it was first presented.

2000 CANDLELIGHT PROCESSIONAL ~ The Christmas Story is narrated by John Tesh and Barry Bostwick on Saturday, December 5th and Sunday, December 6th.

RAINY DAY CAVALCADES –The covered Main Street motor vehicles including the horseless carriages and Omnibus are used to transport Disney Characters down the parade route during inclement weather. These mini parades are held when the weather will not permit use of the normally scheduled parade.

2001 PARADES

ANAHEIM ANGEL'S CHAMPIONSHIP PARADE ~ This one-time only parade featured the Anaheim Angels team in vehicles to celebrate their recent 2002 World Championship win on Saturday, September 28, 2002.

MICKEY’S SHINING STAR CAVALCADE ~ This small parade of characters begins on Wednesday, January 7, 2004. It ends on Tuesday, February 10, 2004.

SLEEPING BEAUTY’S ROYAL CELEBRATION ~ This small parade paying tribute to Sleeping Beauty and all the prince and princesses begins on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 and ends Saturday, April 24, 2004.

MICKEY’S MAGIC KINGDOM CELEBRATION ~ This small character parade begins on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 and ends Saturday, April 24, 2004.

2004 CANDLELIGHT PROCESSIONAL ~ The Christmas Story is narrated by Marie Osmond.

2005 PARADES

MICKEY’S SHINING STAR CAVALCADE ~ This small parade ran from Friday, January 7, 2005 to Wednesday, February 10, 2005 and was used to bridge the after-holiday gap until the next big parade could begin running. This was a twice daily parade.

SLEEPING BEAUTY’S ROYAL CELEBRATION ~ This parade started on Friday, January 28, 2005 and ended on Sunday, April 24, 2005. This parade featured a glance of all the Disney Prince and Princesses and their court dancers in one parade and stopped in two locations on the parade route to perform. The soundtrack was mostly instrumental and quite regal. It ran twice daily.

MICKEY’S MAGIC KINGDOM CELEBRATION ~ This parade started on Friday, February 11, 2005 and ended on Sunday, April 24, 2005. It ran at twice daily in between showings of the Sleeping Beauty Royal Celebration which also ran twice daily. This parade featured the song “At the Happiest Place on Earth”. The parade stopped in two locations to perform songs featuring the five “lands” of Disneyland.

WALT DISNEY’S 50th ANNIVERSARY PARADE OF DREAMS ~ begins on Thursday, May 5, 2005 as part of the Happiest Homecoming on Earth, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Disneyland in California. The Brother Bear song, “Welcome” was used throughout the parade and the color scheme of the parade is gold to match the 50th anniversary of Disneyland. Julie Andrews narrated the parade introduction.

2005 CANDLELIGHT PROCESSIONAL ~ The Christmas Story is narration by actor, Dick Van Dyke. This is his 2nd time narrating the story. He last read the Nativity story forty years ago in 1965.

2006 PARADES

WALT DISNEY’S PARADE OF DREAMS ~ Continuing into 2007 as part of the HAPPIEST HOMECOMING ON EARTH, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Disneyland in California in 2005. The Brother Bear song, “Welcome” was used throughout the parade and the color scheme of the parade is gold to match the 50th anniversary of Disneyland. Julie Andrews narrated the parade introduction.

YEAR OF A MILLION DREAMS GRAND MARSHALL CAVALCADE ~ This Cavalcade and often a pre-parade is presented when Disneyland celebrated what was called “A Year of a Million Dreams,” a promotional campaign granting park guests an array of prizes [or dreams] from free vacations to overnight stays inside the park. Each day one lucky family was chosen to be honorary grand marshals and traveled at the head of the parade in a special customized car down the parade route.

2007 CANDLELIGHT PROCESSIONAL ~ The Christmas Story is narrated by Jane Seymour.

DISNEYLAND’S PARADE OF DREAMS ~ Based on the previous Parade of a Million Dreams, this revamped Parade also originally honored Disneyland’s 50th birthday in 2005. Repurposed the song “Welcome” from the animated feature “Brother Bear” as the theme for the parade. Floats all had a Gold Tone, to tie in with the Golden Anniversary. This parade ended on Sunday, January 29, 2008.

CELEBRATE! A STREET PARTY ~ This street party parade began on Friday, March 27, 2009 and included a series of different popular dances, and guests were encouraged to dance along. The music, floats and costumes were very contemporary in feel. The intro to the parade would often change based on what the current holiday was, as this was promoted to celebrate a special event. When there was no holiday, they would reference possible anniversaries, birthdays or family reunions as the reason to celebrate.

CELEBRATE! A STREET PARTY ~ This street party parade continues into 2010 and included a series of different popular dances, and guests were encouraged to dance along. Parade units included a Frozen pre-parade unit, Mickey Mouse striking up the band, Aladdin’s Magical Cymbal, Donald’s Fiesta Fantastico, the Royal Princess Romantic Melodies, Simba’s Beastly Beats, Tiana’s New Orleans Jazz Jubilee, Peter Pan’s Neverland Buccaneer Blast and Mary Poppin’s Spoonful of Rhythm.

PAINT THE NIGHT PARADE ~ Formerly a Hong Kong Disney parade, the Disneyland version debuted on Friday, May 22, 2015, as part of the park's 60th anniversary Diamond Celebration. The parade is a successor to the long-running Main Street Electrical Parade, which had appeared at many Disney parks in several different incarnations since 1972. Paint the Night Parade had its last regular performance on Monday, September 5, 2016, but returned briefly for the 2016 holiday season.

There is no HALLOWEEN PARADE listed in 2015.

This parade went on hiatus on Sunday, November 5, 2017.

PAINT THE NIGHT PARADE ~ This parade closes on Sunday, January 8, 2017 to make way for the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade.

MAIN STREET ELECTRICAL PARADE ~ The Main Street Electrical Parade returns to Disneyland on Friday, January 20, 2017 for a limited engagement. Disneyland restored the drum float to once again read "Main Street Electrical Parade" as well as "Disneyland Presents". The Tinker Bell's float, added in 2009, was moved back to the Peter Pan unit and was altered for the 2017 run, making Casey Junior the new leader of the parade. In February 2017, the pixie dust swooshes added to the floats in 2009 were removed, except on Tinker Bell's float, since Tinker Bell was no longer the parade's leader. The Main Street Electrical Parade had its final performance of its most recent run at Disneyland Park on Sunday, August 20, 2017.

FRIGHTFULLY FUN PARADE ~ This parade is specially for the 17 nights of Halloween Season Private events only. This 2016 parade continues until 2018.

2017 CANDLELIGHT PROCESSIONAL ~ The Christmas Story is narrated by Chris Hemsworth on Saturday, December 2, 2017 and Sunday, December 3, 2017.

Designed by Jody Daily and Kevin Kidney, with a retro look inspired by the art of the late Mary Blair, this parade features a series of segments, each themed to a different genre of music, as they tie into Disney’s classic films. This parade went on hiatus on Sunday, July 17, 2019 to make way for the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade.

FRIGHTFULLY FUN HALLOWEEN PARADE ~ This parade is specially for the 17 nights of Halloween Season Private events only. This parade is closed on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 and will be moved to Disney California Adventure in 2019.

2018 CANDLELIGHT PROCESSIONAL ~ The Christmas Story is narrated by actor, Chris Pratt on Saturday, December 1st and Sunday, December 2, 2018.

A CHRISTMAS FANTASY PARADE ~ Starting in November of 1995, this seasonal parade is an all Holiday themed show. Like its predecessor, this parade included all new floats, and an original theme song. This parade has changed little since it was first presented.

RAINY DAY CAVALCADES ~ The covered Main Street motor vehicles including the horseless carriages and Omnibus are used to transport Disney Characters down the parade route during inclement weather. These mini parades are held when the weather will not permit use of the normally scheduled parade.

2019 Parades

MICKEY’S SOUNDSATIONAL PARADE ~ This parade returned on Friday, January 25, 2019. Designed by Jody Daily and Kevin Kidney, with a retro look inspired by the art of the late Mary Blair, this parade features a series of segments, each themed to a different genre of music, as they tie into Disney’s classic films. This parade went on hiatus on Sunday, July 17, 2019 to make way Mickey’s 90th Birthday Celebration.

MAIN STREET ELECTRICAL PARADE ~ Considered to be Disneyland’s most popular parade, the Main Street Electrical Parade returns to Disneyland on Friday, August 2, 2019 for a limited engagement. Disneyland restored the drum float to once again read "Main Street Electrical Parade" as well as "Disneyland Presents". The Main Street Electrical Parade had its final performance of its most recent run at Disneyland Park on Monday, September 30, 2019. It performs twice nightly.

MICKEY AND FRIENDS BAND-TASTIC CAVALCADE ~ Starting on Thursday, July 18, 2019, this temporary cavalcade of Disney characters joins the Disneyland Marching Band. It ends on Thursday, August 1, 2019 to make room for the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade.

NO HALLOWEEN EVENTS at Disneyland in 2019 ~ All Halloween parades, shows and events were moved to Disney California Adventure in 2019.

2019 CANDLELIGHT PROCESSIONAL ~ The Christmas Story narrator has yet to be announced.

Like its predecessor, this parade included all new floats, and an original theme song. This parade has changed little since it was first presented. Current parade units include Anna, Elsa and Olaf bid you a warm winter welcome from their Frozen float, Mickey and Minnie work with Chip 'n Dale to organize letters to Santa, Woody and Buzz give a playful wave from a giant wooden building blocks, the Disney Princesses dance and curtsy at the Candlelight Ball. In the grand finale is Santa Claus himself.

2020 Parades

MAGIC HAPPENS PARADE ~ Starting on February 27th, Mickey produces fun floats with the wave of his magic wand including Miguel and Dante from Coco, Moana, Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Kristoph and Sven from Frozen 2.

Due to the global pandemic of COVID-19, all Disney parks and resorts around the world were closed until further notice. The Disneyland Resort closed its door on March 13th and as of July 21st, 2020, it still had not opened.

2020 CANDLELIGHT PROCESSIONAL ~ As of July, 2020, this event is still waiting to be confirmed with no speakers as yet mentioned.
